 Greyface Dartmoor Sheep

We have three rams on  the farm along with about twenty five breeding females.  Our oldest ram is named Duke, he is nine and is one of the friendliest and more sociable animals on the farm.  Churchill is our second ram and has been shown at both Devon County and Mid Devon...Wellington is our latest addition and has his first lambs due in March, they are inseparable except when the ewes are tupping!! 

We also produce high quality sheep skin rugs.  The tough, hardwearing wool from the Dartmoor Greyface make excellent rugs and sofa drapes, they are soft and warm.  Please contact us for further details.

Dartmoor Greyface Facts...
 

• The Greyface Dartmoor is an 'improved' breed.  A medium bodied sheep (approx. 60kg), hornless, deep bodied, short legged, with well woollen head and legs.
• There are listed on the  'At Risk' register of the RBST.
• Marketing demands led to their decline in numbers from the 1940's onwards.
• The Dartmoor's are able to thrive on exposed pasture as they are a very hardy breed. 
• They are large, heavy sheep with a long curly lustre fleece.
• The wool clip averages 9kg for ewes and 15kg for rams.
• It is very tough wool and so often used in carpets and blankets.
