On Groubear Farm there is a selection of Silver Grey Dorkings, Buff and Black Orpingtons, Light Sussex and Speckled Sussex which are all rare breeds. At present we have some  Light and Speckled Sussex pullets and cockerels and Cream Legbar pullets for sale.

We also keep Aylesbury ducks, and geese.  The poultry are kept in  runs for protection as we have a fox problem

 

Chickens

The Dorking

• The Dorking is a distinctive breed of chicken because they are five toed.
• There are many colour varieties of Dorking, but we choose to keep Silver-Grey.
• They are a duel purpose breed, equally good at producing good quality meat and eggs.
  
• A Dorking hen can lay an average of 200 eggs per year.

Black and Buff Orpington

• The Orpington breed got its name from the village its founder, William Cook lived in.
• It is a duel purpose breed, although many people keep them for showing rather than              for farming.
• The Orpington hen can produce on average 120-130 eggs per year and they are an excellent table bird.  They are very docile and easy to manage.
• The eggs are light brown in colour.

 

   

 

Ducks and Geese

 

We have a number of Aylesbury Ducks which we use for breeding and the surplus for meat.  Ducks are very commical and jolly creatures who love nothing more that the hose pipe to be left on.
